Derek Vella

Derek Vella

Food Services Manager / Chef

Food has been Derek Vella’s lifelong passion. Although a native of Ontario, he studied in Victoria, British Columbia – a graduate of Camosun College’s Culinary Apprenticeship and Chef’s Training program. Derek’s successful career in the restaurant and catering business has taken him across Canada and provided a wide variety of experience in food service.

Derek joined YLCC in 2003 as our Food Services Director and continues to develop our various menus and nutritional programs which are continually improving! He lives year round at YLCC with his wife Helena and two children Isis and Miles.

Derek’s extensive knowledge and skill ranges from traditional to fine dining, vegetarian and ethnic food preparation.  He draws on these resources to provide an exceptionally healthy and diverse dining experience for our guests.
