What’s your best?

Mar 28, 2009

4 years ago I attended a conference that changed my life. I was working hard at my business, the business of leadership development. I was doing the same thing I had done for years and years. Making small changes, doing little things. Then I was invited to spend a weekend with Robin Sharma in Toronto at his Absolute Best Self Weekend. It quite honestly changed my outlook on life and how I perceived my limits.

Within two days I had created a new plan for my life, my business and my future. I continue to use the tools I learned at ABS every day. I also can’t tell you how many great people that I met that are now friends. One of the most powerful nuggets of wisdom I picked up was a quote by Arthur Schopenhauer

“Nearly Everyone takes the limits of their own vision as the limits of the world. A few do not. Join them.”

That single quote and the skills that I learned at ABS transformed my life. Is there a quote or an event that has changed yours? It’s good to remind ourselves that we need to challenge ourselves daily to be better, to do more. Please take a moment and share a quote here on the STUpendous that has had a great impact on your life.

If you are interested in spending three days that can transform your life I strongly encourage you to experience ABS!

I love this story…I remember when you came back from the conference…so many ideas whizzing around, and in just a couple short years…so many of those ideas have become a reality!

I had a moment like that in first year, sitting in philosophy class when I heard “No one can make you nothing if you believe you are something!”
It hit me, and has become my life motto, because as I long as I believe in myself, and listen to myself, and be who I want to be, and do what I want to do, no one can tell me the opposite!

Mr Phil Doucette, a new baby’s daddy came to my school in montreal
I was in some pretty low times in grade 9, i guess we all get those around thattime in life but i was really low, dangerously low..
While attending the mandatory assembly a friend of mine leans over in the middle of Phil’s Hi 5 for kids explanation and said “hey aaron, i can seeyou doing this kiind of stuff!”
I went up to Phil and shook his hand, just like the other 100 kids. but unlike that 100 kids, that hand shake and few sentences between Phil D. and I changed my life for eva eva.
not only wouldi be here at school, i would have been at ylcc, i would not have ever been to oslc, and who knows i might not even be here in life.

“they might not remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel” right Phil?

Thanks for makin me feellike a million bucks Mr. Phil ‘Daddio’ Doucette!
Thanks for givin me a place to make that million bucks Stu!

That truly is a great story. It is so amazing what spending a few days, a few hours or even a few minutes with someone so inspritional can push you to do.
And I know that YLCC has so much to thank you for Stu, for continuuing to push your dream and re-evaluate what you wanted camp to become.

As for a quote that really pushes me every time I read/hear.say it:
“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does” -William James-

I find it so easy for us to sink into the mentality that we are just another person, and we really cannot effect the world around us. Yes we are only 1, but we ar STILL 1! Mark Twain said it as “If everyone was content with themselves, there would be no hereos”.
This quote reminds me that I do have an impact on the world around me, and that my actions and words do not jjust affect me. We all play an important role in this world, and James always will be there to remind us of it.

    love and leadership,
    Mitchell

I like this blog a lot Stu! I found Aaron’s response particularly interesting and touching. The quote that resounds the most with me and leaves me truly impacted is by Eleanor Roosevelt. She said: “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”

When I read it for the first time fireworks of realization and understanding went off in my head! It’s so eloquent, so perfect, so true! NO ONE can make you feel bad, or dumb or inadaquete unless you let them! It’s up to YOU to make yourself known, push yourself further and to present your very best self to the world! Cool quote eh??

    peace out, and in!
    kaila.

    Thanks Stu!

i absolutely agree with kaila. unfortunately i all too often don’t put up a fight and do allow people to make me feel inferior.

I know i heard this somewhere but i forget where… “why do i have to be a zero so you can be a hero?”

I truely believe that we lead together and it is with the help of others that we can accomplish our greatest goals. One person does not have to be pushed down for another to rise up.

    Let’s do it together!
