Sitting in a Starbucks, just finished interviewing a great young man for a possible job with our organization. I asked him what his passion was… great question.
I was looking around the coffee house and saw a tea cup for sale, it has a tag attached to it that read…
sip.
talk.
write.
read.
eat.
listen.
be.
I love that. Aren’t those powerful words and actions. I like how each word is followed by a period. Which means that each one is singularly important. We need to SIP. We need to TALK. We need to WRITE. My favourite is BE, because we need to sometimes stop pushing for tomorrow and BE in the moment. Live in the moment now, do what you love now, cherish the moment now.
It was a beautiful night this past Sunday and the sky at my home was incredible, millions of stars. My daughter suggested that we put on our winter gear and grab the sleds and enjoy the night. So much laughter… beautiful. My favourite moment, my BE, was when we lied down in the snow and looked up… magnificent. That was a time to not think about the next day, week or month, but to BE in that moment.
Write down each of those words and then write a little after each word. Sip - Who do you have coffee with? Talk - Who do you have conversations with, are you spending enough time in good conversations? Write - Do you journal, write letters (real letters, cards, notes)? Read - What are you reading? Gossip rags or great books? Eat - What do you eat? Good food, bad food, healthy food? Listen - Are you listening to yourself, your body, to what matters (two ears, one mouth for a reason). Be - Are you in this moment. Enjoy it!
Write your list, in your journal and perhaps share it here on STUpendous BLOG. Maybe you will inspire someone else with your list.

sip. .... tim hortons at least once a week with my best friend Rich. Starbucks and tims everytime i venture back to school with close friends April and then Rob
talk….. on a regular basis there are a select few i get to share wisdom with, my family, Rich and as of late three special girls Amber, April and Jack. without whom i would have struggled getting through somethings i’m going through right now.
write….. journal as much a i can. write daily in the sandbox…it’s too therapeutic not to. Write in my lab book about all the progress i’m making!
read….the sandbox everyday because as important it is to contribute your thoughts, it’s great hearing those of others also. This word makes me feel guilty because i used to read NON stop, this i have neglected as of late. there is a simple solution though, make the choice to pick up a book instead of mindlessly flipping through channels.
eat…. been trying to eat a whole heck of a lot healthier. this is what i attribute my 10 pound weight loss too. Lots less chips, way more veggies and fruit. I can’t lie, i can’t give up my chocolate frozen yogurt. even that though isn’t the worst.
listen… i listen to those around me. It’s truly a skill and should not be taken for granted. Sometimes all people need is for someone to listen to them. In the music department, i have found my artist of the moment…Butch Walker. so his words are drifting to my ears a large portion of the day also.
be…. i’m always being. the question is am i being to the best of my ability? right now i would have to say i think i can do better! there is always room for improvement. stu is right though, sometimes you just have to let things happen….you just have to BE.

This is a favourite of mine! i understand this one 100%, i know that exact feeling where that one second takes you out of reality, like you can look down and see yourself and those around you in such a powerful moment ( P.MO.).
What a great reminder to appreciate the place youre in and people you have in your life. I really am looking forward to this journal entry - its goign to put alot of things in perspective. what a sweet blog Stu.
live to learn.
