There, right there

Jan 27, 2009

I love getting up early, very early. Love it. Truly! I was up today at 4:30 and I was reading some great quotes. Check out this one.

“For lack of attention a thousand forms of loveliness elude us every day.”
—Evelyn Underhill

I am not sure who Evelyn is but she hit the nail on the head. I had three of our summer staff come visit yesterday and they went for a walk around the property. When they came back they commented on how beautiful everything was. True, so true.

Take a moment to today and look around you and see the loveliness all around. It’s right there, there and there…

That is so true Stu!! I was in the city on Sunday, and the lights were so beautiful!! The snow in the tree’s…so beautiful. The frozen lake, so beautiful. I was waiting for the bus, and heard the birds for the firt time in a long time, once again just lovely:)No matter where I am there is beauty surrounding me:) Thanks for the reminder!! I think that I am going to go for a run and realize the beauty that is so close.

    Hello Stu,
Thank you for the words of wisdom. We tend to get very busy in our everyday lives and forget to enjoy the simple pleasures that are right in front of our nose. I also has the pleasure of your three summer staff last night in my home, it reminded me of how wonderful it is to be young and free spirited.

I am not so sure that I understand the power of YLCC ,but I do know that everyone that is associated with it comes away a better person.

Thanking you always for your inspiration, keep it up, you have a whole new generation out there yet to find the magic in YLCC.

    Isn’t my mom great?!

Wow! Awesome blog, as always Stu!

I was so blessed to be able to relax and take two amazing walks today to enjoy the perfect winter weather! Love it : )

I totally agree! So often I get caught up in it’s too cold, or it’s too busy, and I forget to stop and “smell the roses” so to speak. If I look outside right now it is snowing, not necessarilly my favourite conditions, but if I look again it looks like I am in a snow globe, and it’s not really that cold, and the snow makes the world look pretty again, beautiful white snow covering everything, a sense of starting fresh!
And the university may be busy due to the bus strike and the weather, but again I need to appreciate the fact that I can go to a university with so much cultural diversity, and where I can speak 2 languages, and where I can be exposed to new foods, new experiences, and new ideas! So it may be busy, but I have to see the opportunity to practice my french, to connect with new people, to really feel a part of something much larger!

I wish I could be at camp to see it’s beauty, I miss visiting in the winter and enjoying the peace and calm that I would feel!

Got a lift to campus today with my roommate, and rather than getting dropped off outside the office where I needed to be, we drove to the back of the campus to park, and walked all the way back, soaking in the snowy afternoon while we chatted.  Won’t be long before the snow’s all gone and we’re sweating buckets again, so it’s nice to soak in every opportunity!

    Great Blog Stu.

Running unplugged was my reaction to this blog.
Even though it is an indoor track that tends to get monotonous i decided to run without music. It opened my world from between my ears to around the track and the three gyms it cirlces. And for the first five minutes i was bored, didnt know what to focus on! then i started watching the dodgeball games taking place just under me, next thing you know twenty minutes had gone by and i had laughed out loud a few times from a few good shots and found myself rooting for specific teams. i made a friend on my run (after running in circles for half an hour you start to see the same people) and we ended up talking about likes/ dislikes, anyways, i eneded up running for an hour which felt like 10 minutes.
I will now run unplugged from now on.  Merci!

    live to learn.

My reaction to this blog is reflecting on seeing my country, my province through the eyes of someone who has never been here before. I had a visitor from England who had never been here before, and there are some sites that obviously needed to be seen! Things like Ottawa, Montreal, Niagara Falls, a jog down to the States, and Camp, and we through a bit of skiing in there too.

In the last month I’ve done more, and seen more then I would have. Without having a reason we don’t bother seeing what’s right around us. You just think “hey, that’ll be there tomorrow”

I met many new people, and spent some time with friends and family I wanted him to meet. It’s a blessing being able to show off something you are proud of. It means you get to relive it yourself too.
