Sacrifice

Oct 23, 2008

I am in BC watching the late night news. I try and avoid watching the late night news, never good to fall asleep with all that negative stuff floating around my head. The last story of the night though, was a powerful story about a young girl, who after visiting India was so taken back by the conditions of some of the children that she saw she asked her father to remove her from a prestigious private school and enroll her in the local public high school. Here’s the thing, she then asked if her parents would donate her tuition to a charitable group that help children in India. Wow, who at 16 would consider that, be that selfless?

Makes me wonder what I can do today to give to the world around me? How can I help others more then I am right now. She is truly finding a cause that is bigger then herself and giving to it. Today, find something you can do and give to it. Be bigger and better then you thought you ever could be.

A leader is not a leader because of the lessons that they learned throughout the years.
A leader is a leader because they remind us of the things that we have already learned yet somehow were forgotten.
Young leaders today renew our thinking.
We all know that we don’t need to live with what we have yet we continue living with what we have while still striving to attain more.
Then a someone, a leader, comes along to remind us that what we have isn’t what we need and by sacrifing it, we give more to another than we ever really had ourselves.

What a pure thought. Unlike many ‘older peoples’, no thoughts of doubt or sarcastic thoughts, “yea yea we can change the world, i know”.
The miraculous thing this young lady has done involves the choice to challenge her self to find the money to help. She took time to think of a way to help someone elses life, not a very common hobby. Realizing the painful environments in India she began to think of a way to help.
After seeing or hearing of some of the hardships in the world, often the feeling of guilt is as far as this information will carry. Being able to assert ones self and seek a way to CHANGE the world is a doozy of a step!
What an ACTION step, it reminds me to take action because I CAN, if i really WANT to.

Easier said than done doesn’t meant we shouldn’t do it

This young lady is definately an inspiration, and makes me believe that their is some hope in our generation for the ability to change the world. It’s sad to think that not many people would have the guts to do that, and would rather live in comfort, than face the troubles of the real world, where money doesn’t count.

I agree with aaron, everything is easier said than done, but it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t do it. I am currently helping my roommates with some big projects coming up in their groups on campus with sexuality, health, and international development, if I can bring a little bit of awareness to campus, it’s better than nothing!
