The Zone

Jul 8, 2008

If you have been following my BLOG’s then you know I was working on a 22 day challenge. It was a HUGE succes, then I got busy with camp. Had some friends visit and fell off the challenge. It has been really upsetting me. Then I thought back to a book about a diet called the ZONE. It is one of many books that used to be around my house. The first page shared some brilliant life wisdom. It said something like this…

“If you fall of the Zone diet, don’t panic because you can get right back on it the next day.”

That’s the key isn’t it? You need to continue and work hard on the ultimate goal. Don’t beat yourself up. I am back on it again tomorrow. Back in my 22 day zone. I needed to tell you that so that I could remember it for myself. If you believe in what you are doing, keep at it.

    Stu,

Sometimes you have to stop doing something to realize how important it is to continue. I think you are great and you inspire me. Everyday.

    Hey Buddy,

I will be at camp on the 26th for the remainder of the season and I would like to join you on our quest to balance mind, body, and spirit.

Running has never been my favorite activity since high school double sessions; however, I am buying some new running shoes this week to work towards a personal goal of running a 5 minute mile prior to the start of the football season.

I look forward to chasing you around camp.

    Your friend,
    Richard (aka stu)

.... funny that you should be writing about this today - very synchronistic for me. I just had a very similar conversation with a few of my yoga students - because they were feeling badly because they have not been keeping up with their health routine because it is the summer (friends visiting, change in schedules etc)….

This is my take on it. Everything has its own rhythm – including what happens naturally when you are trying to change habits. It is natural to have a period where you ‘fall off’, and you have to re-evaluate your goals, regroup and sometimes restart. Try not to be too upset with yourself – you are getting back on track again.  Sometimes you fall off for a reason too – something isn’t clicking with what you need and when that happens, it’s a great opportunity to look at it. Maybe you won’t find out exactly what it is right away – but there is always a reason waiting to surface.

Setting a goal shouldn’t be a static thing anyway right? I think about goal setting like a water fountain – everything bubbling up, rising and then falling over the edge of the fountain – that doesn’t change what a fountain is or does – but the goal always returns to the source waiting to rise up again. It’s fluid, and that’s a beautiful thing – full of opportunity!

On a personal note – I have started training for the Rib-fest (yes actual training, not just training to eat ribs – because I spend my time running around the park) – shift in routine, exercise and diet… it’s not an easy thing to do – one day at a time. The magic number it seems is 28 days to change a habit, 48 to make it stay (according to someone – just a number in my mind) …. I’m sure you know this already, but you aren’t alone!

my favorite slogan is “imagine, create, become” and “everything in its own time” wink

    much love
    la

The best part of falling if off is dusting yourself off and getting back on
    That is why we fall
To know that we can’t always be perfect
We can’t always get it right
But we can always try again
