Blake Fly
Workshop Presenter
Blake likes Ninja Turtles, is heavily lactose intolerant and lives to create thought-provoking programming for students and professionals at all levels. His last name is Fleischacker, but he uses “Fly” to save people the pronunciation problems. His favourite movie is admittedly The Notebook, but he thinks that is okay because he is a writer.
Blake devoted his school days to the arts and spent summer vacations lathered in sunscreen (red hair). He is a self-proclaimed “band geek” and was known as the music and drama kid before he discovered the world of student leadership. Rounding up his high school years as a member of student council, Blake discovered the power of combining the arts with leadership. Being voted as his high school valedictorian gave Blake a taste for public speaking and student sentimentalism.
Blake has been a Tedx conference host (Tedxuwo) as well as one of the featured Tedx speakers. He is the author of “Campus Gets Wasted” and Co-Author of “The Art and Science of Success.” He draws on his countless experiences during high school and his years living and leading in university student residences. Blake inspires people to live a big life by savouring the smallest moments. After spending almost a decade living in university residences, he has lived with over 6000 roommates.
Blake has spoken to over 10 000 students across the country and is known for his innovative social programming, such as “Hellovator” and “Train Reaction.” His live music, fascinating outlook on life and self-deprecating sense of humour make his programs feel like an inspirational mash up of Mary Poppins, Toy Story and Top Gun.
His family means the world to him and his partner is the girl he plans to cook Kraft Dinner for over the next 80 years.
Workshop Description for “Life Between the Lockers”
The collision of live music and possible prank phone calls are just a few methods Blake uses to make people bask in the social subtleties of the student world. The little things in high school make up the big things in life. Whether it be by opening up about his acne-filled adolescence or his trumpet-tooting teens, Blake honestly connects with students about why they might forget their grades on an English exam, but may never forget their locker combination. Students will learn how to stumble into “cool,” tackle peer pressure, transform bullies into buddies, connect with peers and teachers on a more meaningful level, and leave a legacy in their school…even if they don’t know what legacy means. Prepare to walk through the hallways of high school and discover the important scenery that many people miss along the way.
