Alpha Junior

Grades: 7th, 8th

The Alpha Junior program at YLCC consists of an introduction to what leadership actually is. Alpha Junior campers have the chance to take part in LEADERSHIP classes which consist of a variety of fun and hands on learning activities. The counselors work hard to teach campers to make their own paths in life while also bringing the energizing daily events of summer camp.

The Alpha Junior program has several LEADERSHIP components which may be covered over the course of the week. Campers must complete at least 5 of the 7 LEADERSHIP components to pass the Alpha Junior program.

These components are:

Defining Your Leadership Style - Understanding what type of leader you are will make you better. Knowing how you interpret the world around you will help campers make better choices.
Thinking Outside the Box – How to think for yourself! Campers are encouraged to think for themselves and have more self confidence.
Teamwork – We work better together. This concept is great to learn for the soccer player to the choir member. We are all more successful if we work together.
Communication – Effective listening and speaking skills. Entering those final years of elementary school this skill needs to be honed. We will give campers new cutting edge skills to succeed.
Organization – What we learn now can help shape our success. How to organize ourselves is a basic skill that eludes many adults. We will give campers a solid introduction to time honoured systems that work.
Creativity – Learn how to harness this skill. Be creative… be a success.
Prime Directives – YLCC’s basic fundamentals of an effective leader. Each program reinforces and builds on previous programs. These are basic every day rules of leadership success.
